What, When & Where?

  • If you are camping and plan to arrive at Cheam Recreation Ground on Saturday 20th May 2023 – see below or the run booklet.

  • If you have entered the Run as part of an organised Club and are part of a Club Stand, you should drive directly to Madeira Drive, Brighton and not go to Cheam Recreation Ground. Your pack awaits you there.

  • All other entrants should aim to arrive at Cheam Recreation Ground from 05.00 am onwards on Sunday 21st May 2023 and have your ticket ready to show to the marshals at the gate.

  • If you have entered the Show ‘n’ Shine, please ensure your class sticker is displayed prominently on your windscreen BEFORE you arrive at the park, you should also have removed any SNS stickers from previous years.

  • For the 2023 London To Brighton, a negative Lateral Flow Test (LFT) is NO LONGER required for entry, however, this may be re-added, at short notice if government guidelines change. IF a lateral flow is required, please make sure it is taken no earlier than 24 hours before the event. This will be checked on the gate. LFT tests can be obtained from your local pharmacy, or ordered online. (https://www.gov.uk/order-coronavirus-rapid-lateral-flow-tests). Please do not attend the event if you have any symptoms of covid-19.

  • When booking online you will be provided with an e-ticket via e-mail. This IS NOT your ticket to the event, you will be posted a physical ticket for the event and entry cannot be granted without this.

Camping at Cheam Recreation Ground

  • All rules of the Run apply to the camping area.

  • Gates open for camping at Cheam Recreation Ground at 12.00 Midday Saturday 20th May 2023. Please do not arrive before this time.

  • Camping is free and there is no need to pre-book and you may park your vehicle next to your tent. Due to the earlier opening time for camping and the risk of increased numbers, LSMOC may change the layout for camping arrangements and mark out specific areas, you should follow the directions of the Marshals and be aware that we cannot ensure a camping place that is with people who are not with you at time of arrival. There are limited washing facilities available on site.

  • No open fires, Chinese lanterns, fireworks or exhaust flamers are allowed at any time, however small disposable BBQs are allowed if raised off the ground. Dustbin bags will be provided to all vehicles on entry and we ask that all rubbish be collected. Please do not place hot ash in bin bags but leave separate for collection.

  • If you leave the park in your car please note the gates close at 22:00 and you will NOT be allowed back in after this time, except on foot.

  • Do not camp in areas that are cordoned off, as this may delay the start of the Run.

  • Noise should be kept to a minimum, especially after 11.00 pm.

  • Finding Alan after 11:00 pm is officially pointless, he has been left at Crystal Palace

But what If I'm Not Camping?

  • Aim to arrive from 5.00 am onwards on Sunday 21st May 2023. Your Run number is for LSMOC use only and does not apply to your place in the queue!

  • Please present your ticket to the Marshals on the entrance gate. You must have a valid ticket, you will not be allowed entry on the Run without one! E-tickets cannot be used!

  • If you do not have a ticket ready for inspection upon arrival you will be directed to another parking area and will be able to enter once you have your ticket.

  • If you have a place in the Show ‘n’ Shine event, please ensure you display your sticker clearly on your windscreen before you enter; remember to remove last year’s sticker. Show ‘n’ Shine entrants are required to park in a different area and displaying your sticker will ensure we know to do this. Your sticker will have been posted to you prior to the Run.

  • Proceed SLOWLY at 5 mph and follow the Marshals instructions regarding where to park.

  • Once parked take care getting out of the car as there will be moving vehicles near you. Make your way on foot with your ticket (intact and unsigned) to the booking-in desks.

  • The driver will be required to sign for receipt of the Run Pack and acknowledgement of the Rules of the Run on part L of your ticket. A Marshal will remove this part of your ticket. Please remember to take your ticket away with you as you will need it to gain entry to Madeira Drive, Brighton.

  • If you have entered the Show ‘n’ Shine you will need to register at the SNS desk as noted in your SNS pack.

  • Once in possession of your Run Pack, attach the plaque to the front of your car, the sticker to the windscreen and T-shirt to your chest.

  • A limited number of additional T-Shirts and car flags will be available to purchase at Cheam Recreation Ground during the morning, and all day from the LSMOC Merchandise stand in Brighton.

Arriving in Brighton

  • Once on the outskirts of Brighton, the Run signs will direct you around the outside of Brighton, entering Brighton from the EAST, passing Dukes Mound before reaching the Pier. If you have ‘SNS’ (Show ‘n’ Shine) or ‘CS’ (Club Stand) stickers you should continue to the Pier roundabout. All other entrants should enter via the Dukes Mound end of Madeira Drive.

  • If you decide to enter Brighton via the A23, be prepared for slow traffic. Follow the signs for the seafront, passing the Royal Pavilion on your right.

  • At the roundabout opposite Brighton Pier, only minis displaying an SNS or CS sticker will be permitted access. If you do not have one of these stickers, DO NOT attempt access! The Marshals on the gate will direct you to your stand/class. Please follow their directions. Do NOT exceed 5 mph.

  • All other entrants should turn at the Pier roundabout up the hill above Madeira Drive, to turn on to Dukes Mound (or just follow the Mini in front and hope they don’t have a pass). A Marshal will direct you to a parking space. Please drive slowly, following the Marshal’s instructions.

London's Emission Zones Explained

Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ)

To help improve air quality, an Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) now operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, every day of the year within the same area of central London as the Congestion Charge. Most vehicles, including cars and vans, need to meet the ULEZ emissions standards or their drivers must pay a daily charge to drive within the zone.

  • £12.50 for most vehicle types, including cars, motorcycles and vans (up to and including 3.5 tonnes)

  • £100 for heavier vehicles, including lorries (over 3.5 tonnes) and buses/coaches (over 5 tonnes)

LSMOC accept no responsibility for cars that drive through the zone during their journey to Cheam Recreation Ground

Cheam Recreation Ground IS NOT in the current ULEZ area and IS accessible without entering the zone

ULEZ Map 2022.png

Low Emissions Zone (LEZ)

The zone covers most of Greater London (with minor deviations to allow diversionary routes and facilities to turn around without entering the zone and the M25 motorway).

The boundary of the zone, which operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, is marked by signs. The LEZ emissions standards are based on European emission standards relating to particulate matter (PM), which are emitted by vehicles, which have an effect on health.

The following vehicles are NOT charged:

  • Larger vans and minibuses that meet the Euro 3 emission standard.

  • Lorries, buses, and coaches that meet the Euro 4 emission standard.

  • All cars and motorcycles

Congestion Charge (CC)

You need to pay an £15 daily charge if you drive within the Congestion Charge zone 07:00-18:00, Monday to Friday, or 12:00 - 18:00, Saturday & Sunday.

This charge applies to every vehicle that drives in the zone.

The CC and ULEZ are the same zones but two different charges.

LSMOC accept no responsibility for cars that drive through the zone during their journey to Cheam Recreation Ground

Cheam Recreation Ground IS NOT in the current CC area and IS accessible without entering the zone
